PRECIOUS NEEDS YOUR HELP TO LIVE

One of the reasons that we decided to help Precious….Cindy Marabito of Reunion Rescue has been treating her rescue dogs holistically for many years. I had a hard time understanding the treatment, and welcomed the opportunity to first-hand watch the transformation of a dog suffering from aggression and obvious health issues from anxiety/vaccinosis/vaccine toxicity. No better way to learn it!

My fervent hope is that by documenting Precious’ journey, that more rescuers, shelters and dog owners can help their dogs.

Precious arrived at the Deaf Dog Ranch on August 1st. She rode down from Northern CA in the back of the car, uncrated, because Debi was worried that she might panic in a crate. Debi sat in the back seat with her for the entire drive during the wee hours of the night. She arrived early in the morning, wearing a halter and a gentle leader. We had Debi put her into her kennel, as an exchange of her leash from person to person might have resulted in a bite.

Her kennel was marked “CAUTION” in big red letters. Staff was instructed to handle her with one person only, and to be watchful at all times. Precious’ main issue was biting a second person who approaches for any reason. We practice safe dog handling to protect both the dogs and the people at our Deaf Dog Ranch.

We can only guess at what Precious’ life was like before she arrived. Some of the situations that Precious had to live with as a result of having owners that were homeless drug addicts doubtlessly resulted in her thinking that she had to defend against strangers.   She is very vigilant at all times, and she means business.

She has never been taught to control her impulses. She has had no formal obedience training. She’s never been crate trained, and has never been properly socialized with other dogs. She wasn't handled well- the message that she got from the other end of the leash was negative. Precious is nervous, unsure of herself and her new environment, and also seems to have vaccine miasma. If left alone at her foster home, she can’t contain her panic, and has destroyed doors and door mouldings trying to escape.
Deaf dogs are very visually observant- they notice things that hearing dogs do not. They are very tuned-in to their handlers. It's important to establish good communication skills with deaf dogs. They follow their people's leads for behavior, and will do what's expected of them IF they know the rules and what's expected of them. It's not hard to communicate with deaf dogs, it's just non-verbal. They are very adept at reading facial expressions and body language. A well-trained deaf dog will know what you want before you know you want it.

Precious is staying with us, and this is her LAST RESORT. Nobody wants to adopt or foster a dog that is an unpredictable “eight-ball”.  She doesn’t display signs of an attack beforehand, and currently can’t be corralled in a crate to keep everyone, including herself, safe.

Day one Precious screamed, whined, trilled and howled if anyone left the kennel area. She did not like being by herself, or being with the other dogs. We blocked our ears and rolled our eyes. Bless our neighbors for their patience, as she also howled all night when the kennel closed.

Day two was a little better. She was quieter, and didn’t caterwaul every time someone walked away. The night was quieter, with loud whining on and off. She has never tried to break out of her kennel.

The first few days, we just let Precious be Precious, and allowed her time to settle in. She learned our routine, and her level of nervousness dropped daily. She dug into the raw long-lasting treats that we give the dogs every day with gusto. The purpose of the treats is to keep the dogs minds occupied.

Lucky for Precious, she is at a safe place with people that understand her. One of our Kennel Assistants, Brad, decided that she was his “special project”. They have a very special relationship, and he makes sure to spend meaningful one-on-one time with her every day. Precious has shown us that she is very affectionate, and can be trusted with most things.

Precious was started on Emergency Essence week two of her stay. The result was instantaneous, and amazing. Her entire demeanor changed. She had a little more control of her anxiety and her impulses.

A few days later, liquid Zeolite arrived. Never heard of it, so did some research. This fascinating natural substance carries heavy metal, viruses and other toxins out of the bloodstream and metabolism with the dog’s waste product. We had amazing results same day. Much more relaxed, much more focused, and we could see that Precious understood that she was in a safe place. Almost like someone let the air out of a balloon. She was there to learn, and this was a “light-bulb moment” for her.

Mark Tipton of AngelDogs Training was slowly working with Precious to gain her trust and get her used to his presence. When she appeared to be so much calmer, Brad was invited to enter the kennel during training sessions to challenge her impulse of needing to guard the first person by biting the second person. She had impulse control!

Slowly, we’ve been teaching her basic obedience commands. Sit, down, stay, come, and adding in a second person to challenge what she knows about having to protect her people. She is slowly learning how to be a dog. She now assesses instead of striking.
Precious now greets other dogs through the fence in a friendly manner, and is slowly learning to be social. Being at a kennel has been good for her, as she can watch all of the other dogs, and what's happening around her. She's much more relaxed. So relaxed, that she now has "happy tail" from wagging so much and hitting it on the kennel wall.

PLEASE  DONATE TO HELP PRECIOUS
WITH HER REHAB!

She needs to be here for at least another month. Her foster has been very clear about her having to be manageably SAFE when she comes home.
This is her last chance at a normal life, or any life. She deserves better and it’s not her fault.

We CAN save Precious, and turn around the damage done by her former life.
Please open your heart and wallet, and help prevent the possibility of having to euthanize Precious due to learned aggression.
Help her unlearn it, and be free to be a dog.
